Monochromatic Fanatic: 6 Packing Tips for a Cruise

What’s one of the best ways to prepare for a cruise? Shopping, obviously. Here are some tips for packing light, packing cute, and getting the most outfits out of less clothing.

1. KEEP IT MONOCHROMATIC

One way to make packing easier and cheaper is to pack basics (white, black, tan/beige and gray). All you need to do is add accessories that are different colors. Nine out of ten times accessories will be cheaper than buying multiple outfits.

2. DON’T BE AFRAID TO MIX & MATCH

Nobody made a rule that says you can’t wear a cute beach cover up more than once. If its a cute lacy dress or comfy beach pants, don’t stick to a rule where you can only wear them once. Mix your cute black beach pants with your fuchsia bathing suit top. Or get creative and wear them with a colored v-neck tee shirt and tie a knot at the bottom for a cute cruise look. Check out Brit + Co for some cute ideas on how to make your own wrap dress out of only a yard of fabric.

3. KEEP IT LIGHTWEIGHT

Try to find pieces that are made of light-weight materials such as cotton or silk. Sometimes difficult to find, but this will make your packing much lighter. Again, stick to the monochromatic theme for the maximum wearing of a certain piece. Looking for some inspiration on some light-weight linen beach pants? 4. SHOES – LESS IS MORE

Figure out which shoes would be the best for the cruise by keeping them in line with your monochromatic theme or making them the statement color for your outfits. One or two pairs of shoes is plenty, along with one pair of super cute sandals. If you keep them basic (white, black, tan/beige or gray) don’t forget to purchase some type of color. You don’t want to look washed out on your awesome Spring Break cruise.

5. DON’T FORGET THE BAG

Ladies you only need one bag. Make sure it can hold your I.D., room key, lipstick, lip gloss, mini eyeliner, mini mascara, mini perfume and some gum. This could be your statement piece as well so don’t forget to look at colorful bags. Tip: make sure it can zip so that you don’t lose any of your precious items. PRO TIP: Sephora is the go-to for all your travel minis. They literally have everything you could possibly want in travel size.

6. CAN’T LEAVE WITHOUT ACCESSORIES

Accessories are key if you are sticking to a monochromatic wardrobe. I suggest doing tons of neon, especially if you’re going on a cruise like Inception at Sea where you’ll be raging the entire time. You’ll spend a little cash to get some awesome earrings and statement necklaces, but keep in mind accessories can be mixed and matched as well! Don’t fall into a trap of buying a ton of accessories to coordinate with each outfit, be sure to buy several pieces that will go with your entire cruise wardrobe!
